Where they differ

After the workout is set

Runna picks today's workout and its pace. Once you know it, tell Layer when you're going, for how long and how hard, and it gives you one outfit for those conditions. An easy hour and a hard tempo call for different clothes.

Hot days

Runna's Adapt for Heat slows your pace targets so a hot workout still does its job. Layer reads the weather across your whole run and picks what you wear for it.

Your own clothes

Add what you own to Kit and Layer's outfit names your actual pieces. After a logged run, a quick comfort check-in tells Layer how those conditions felt to you.

Where Runna does well

Runna's plans are customized to you, come with an estimated race time, and guide each workout live on your watch or phone as you run.

If you want someone to plan and coach your training, Runna does that and Layer doesn't.

Which one fits you

  • Choose Runna if you want a plan to follow for a race or a new distance.
  • Choose Layer if you already know your run and want to know what to wear for it.
  • Use both: follow Runna's session, and enter its length and effort in Layer for the outfit.

Frequently asked questions

Does Runna tell you what to wear?

Runna publishes general clothing tips, like what to wear in rain or heat. Its product page doesn't describe an outfit for a specific run, and its weather feature, Adapt for Heat, adjusts pace targets. Layer gives you one outfit for the specific run you have planned.

Does Layer have training plans?

No. Layer doesn't write plans or prescribe workouts. With Layer Pro you can see outfits for runs you've planned on future days.

Does Layer connect to Runna?

There's no direct connection. Enter your workout's start time, length and effort in Layer and it dresses you for it.

Is Layer's outfit free?

Yes. What to wear today is always free, in the iPhone app and the web app.
